This is my first post and being an amateur in blogging, hopefully i will be pardoned. As an aunty, i remembered my nephews having skin rashes which we all believed to be heat rashes. I also remembered having to use dusting powder over them rashes. These rashes r worse with the heat wave and moist sweating over them. It becomes challenging to mum when their little ones are so young and you wouldn't be pleased to use all those product on their soft and delicate skin. This is why this topic is my first post.
Firstly, DO NOT SCRUB A BABY'S SKIN!!!. This is a mistake we usually make as carers. These babies are not as dirty as you think. You cannot scrub them to be fairer than they are. I had a mother tell me how her mother in-law scrubs her babies skin cos she wants the baby to be fairer. She is indeed damaging the baby's skin!!!!!!!
EXPOSE THE BABY'S SKIN. This is a common mistake by mothers and nurses. In a tropical heat like naija, the worst thing you can do for a child is to cover him up with a cap. These will not only make their skin moist with sweat, i bet ya, you will have an irritable child
APPLY A THIN LAYER OF MOISTURISER. Its always good to moisturise a baby's skin but apply a thin layer so that the baby wont sweat too much. Also it good to use a perfume free products. They tend to irritate the skin.
AVOID SOAPS. Soaps tend to dry out baby's skin and cause some irritation. At this moment, liquid paraffin bath additives are so good (though so costly) or plain water. Like i keep saying....they are not that dirty
Finally, if the rash still persist, visit your doctor, usually, they prescribe some anti bacterial, anti-fungal cream but remember, use as prescribed. DON'T TURN IT INTO THE BABY'S BODY CREAM
